Beagle Pup

(his name is BO)
Pressure Siphon

Tired of crude gravity racking systems?

Don't want to "bruise" wine with pumps?

Concerned about oxygen contamination?

Consider using inert gas to:

          1.  Rack.
          2.  Transfer.
          3.  Filter.
          4.  Bottle.

This system is analogous to the famous "Bulldog Pup (tm)" pressure siphon used to rack wine from barrels.  The difference is that this system is designed for carboys - thus the name "beagle pup".

Safety issues:  I have been testing this system for over a year and have had NO problems, personally or reported to me.  It is not designed to be a tightly sealed system, so it has built-in pressure relief.  If you get above 5 psi you will hear gas leakage.

As long as you do not exceed 5 psi pressure, there is little danger of breaking the carboy, unless there is a flaw in the glass.  But in that case, the carboy would not be safe even for holding liquids.

5 psi is adequate for transferring to a vessel at the same height, or lower, than the siphon vessel.  It is also adequate for pushing wine through a filter, unless it gets clogged.  In that case, you need to rinse, or change the filter, anyway.
